This {In my hood} post serves as both an explanation and an apology.
First the explanation.
Post can typically take anything from ten days to ten weeks to arrive here. Typically sending post airmail is quicker – as it should be. But I have sent a heavy parcel by sea only for it to arrive in the UK two weeks later instead of the expected three months.
Conversely, I sent an airmail envelope way back in February to Queensland and it has yet to arrive. I’m hoping it’s on the slow boat from China so I’m not giving up on that one just yet.
The reason for the delay is that all post goes to a central point where the address is translated and then a sticker is put on the envelope.
This whole concept fascinates me – how is it translated? Who does the translation? It must be so time consuming a process – don’t get me wrong, I am totally grateful that this system is in place I just don’t understand how it works. But it does go some way to explaining why post takes so long to arrive.
And here’s the apology. Because post takes so long to get here, I don’t check the post box as regularly as I should do. Maybe once every 6 weeks?! Apart from a few bills and statements, our postbox isn’t very exciting. In fact the two in the photo were one of each….yawn…
So occasionally when we are sent cards and parcels {Hello Mum} it can be a while before I acknowledge them.
What’s going on in your hood this week?
